Bad Obstetric History: A Geneticist Perspective

Bad obstetric history is a general term used when the women experience poor obstetric outcome in term of spontaneous abortion, intrauterine demise, still birth or early neonatal death. In such cases, the obstetric future is affected by the previous disaster. It is very disturbing for the families. We will cover the genetics aspect of the above conditions to understand the etiology so as to increase the chance of successful pregnancy outcome and livebirth.

Dr. Moni Bhatia is a trained Geneticist and a Fetal Medicine expert from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. Her field of interest include recurrent miscarriages, fetal medicine, dysmorphology and skeletal dysplasia. She has gained immense experience in diagnosing fetal malformations on targeted ultrasound scans and to deal with the counseling part and further investigations. She is also actively involved in the counseling of patients with teratogenic drug exposure, abnormal TORCH test, abnormal serological screening like a double marker, and triple marker. She is well versed with prenatal testing techniques like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. To her credit, she further has numerous publications in various national and international journals. On the work front, she is currently working as the Chief Clinical Geneticist and Fetal Medicine Specialist in Noble Heart and Superspeciality Hospital, Rohtak.
