Stone Woods Resort & SPA Goa review: Worst managed resort with poor customer service

If you planning to book Stone Wood Resort Goa then please revisit your plan and read the complete review before proceeding.

I had booked the rooms in Stone Wood Resort & Spa in Goa for 27th Aug and 28th Aug 2019.
I checked in to the resort in the late evening hours of 27th Aug 2019 around 8PM. This resort is far from Airport and other parts of the Goa city. So considerable amount of money need to be spend on travel via taxi/cab. And when I entered the resort, they firstly did not have the room cleaned and also did not offer welcome drink on arrival. We checked two rooms prior confirming and after that, we (me and my wife) were able to finalize one which was on 1st floor of the resort.

When we entered the room, we saw that in balcony there were red ants roaming around. So literally you could not enter the balcony area and sit for cup of coffee. On the way through the room, you could literally see blood sucking leaches and other insects roaming around the resort. I had to request the resort staff so as to clean the dead insects from the corridor. You are literally close to nature in every true sense, as lizards, bees and spider webs are staying with you in the room.(I have uploaded the photos in subsequent section).

Since we were very tired on day1 of our check in, so we did not do anything much in the resort(even though there is nothing much to do also). But with all these issues we could hardly sleep.

Second day, we got up and hired the scooter from outside the resort as taxi stand is right at the entrance of the resort. They charge around Rs300/- for the day , however we paid him Rs250/- for the day after bargaining. We headed towards Arambol beach and came back to the resort by 6:30PM in the evening and decided to check out, because at first place, we never liked the room, but since it was late in the evening last night we had no other option than to adjust and stay there overnight. We made up our mind then that we will not be staying this very night (though we have paid for that) after the horrid last night experience. We booked another hotel in South Goa and without any complain decided to check out from Stone wood resort. We booked the cab from outside and the cab driver arrived on time.

But this horrible experience in the resort was not over yet. As soon as the driver arrived, I received a call firstly from resort staff reception that driver has arrived and taxi guys are creating a scene(since they are right in front the of resort and can look around all activities which you are performing).I came down the stairs and looked out of the driver who was surrounded by the group of rowdy taxi drivers which were locals of that area . I went to enquire that what was the matter and the taxi stand guy started saying "Kaun hai bey tu" and pushed me back as if they owned that place and were not in any mood of talking terms. The cab guy was scared and ran away from there.

Now this got me fuming firstly, because the staff at stone wood resort, Goa had informed taxi stand guys that I was to check out from the resort. Now this leaves a question on the hotel authority who shares information with the drivers of their customers ? Not when I enquired with the reception guy about this matter, they said "sir you can book the cab from the taxi stand outside" and why do I need to book cab from outside or any other place. The taxi stand was charging around Rs4000/- for dropping me and this was far more the price which I paid for booking the shabby rooms Rs1300/- per night. Instead, I was getting the cab from outside with just Rs1600/-. This annoyed me badly, since I was getting late and the way rowdy taxi guys behaved with me was not tolerable and instead staff at resort including management were supporting those taxi guys instead of taking care of the customer because of their commissions involved with these taxi stand people. The manager, Mr. Anshul of the hotel literally said "My hands are tied sir (we are handcuffed), we cannot help you." After all the arguments and talking to senior members of the hotel nothing concrete conclusion was made, since they insisted me to Pay the amount asked by taxi driver who literally are residing in their resort premises. So my wife decided to call the Goa Police since this was serious security concern for us and resort was not helping us and we could not move out of the resort as these people would not allow any other taxi services to run neither resort cabs could be availed.

So I put forward to the hotel staff as to why they have opened a resort when they cannot provide any commutation and security facility for their customers. We booked this hotel room for just Rs1300/- and still they forced us to pay more than double the amount to the taxi drivers knowing the fact that they are charging such a big amount. Is this the way you are being treated in a hotel especially when you are tourist and are the major source of income for these local people in Goa ? I have visited so many places of the world but have never faced such a ruthless treatment especially from resort guys.

I would like to thank Goa Police for all their immediate help in resolving the issue. I called the driver again, thankfully he came because he was nearby to the place and the police accompanied our vehicle through the way only to make sure we reach safely to our destination. This whole ordeal took around 2 hours and looks like the purpose of holiday was up for a toss.

So my personal experience for you all, who have gone through the complete review would be to decide carefully when selecting the resort/hotels and such type of cheap resorts like StoneWoods Resort should be strictly avoided. I would personally would not want to re-visit this resort again in my life and would not recommend this to any of my close ones(family/friends).

Do not book the Stone Wood Resort & Spa in Asvewada located on Ashwem-Morjim Road even if you get it for free.
